BACK TO SCHOOL UPDATE
This summer, We Are Limitless celebrated the beginning of our 13th year. Anniversaries like this give us a moment to pause and reflect—on the remarkable successes of our students and the very real challenges still ahead.
Success Stories from the first half of 2025
• Rwanda: Drucella graduated from high school as class valedictorian. She is spending the summer preparing for the SATs this October and working as a math tutor, inspiring others while charting her own path forward. And.... she was invited to do a youth TEDx Talk next month!
• United States: Schadrack, one of our university students, spent his summer working with a professor on a machine learning research project—a big step toward his career in technology. He is also entering his FINAL YEAR OF COLLEGE at St. Edward's University in Austin, TX!
• Rwanda: Lydia has been competing with a semi-professional basketball team while applying to universities in Romania, balancing athletic and academic dreams with incredible discipline.
• Rwanda: Benitha graduated from Primary 6 with an incredible achievement—straight A’s on her national exam. We could not be more proud of her hard work and determination.
• Rwanda: 13-year-old Barbra set herself a challenge this summer: to read one book every week. Not only did she keep her promise, but she also put together her Top 5 Favorite Reads:
1. Dear Olly by Michael Morpurgo
2. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
3. Earthquake (Survival series) by Gordon Korman
4. Insurgent by Veronica Roth
5. Goosebumps: The Shocker on Shock Street by R.L. Stine
A powerful reminder that curiosity and self-motivation are at the heart of lifelong learning.
The Challenges in Congo
Meanwhile, in eastern DR Congo, the situation has never been more dire. Since the M23 rebels took control of the region, daily life has been a struggle for survival.
For the past six years, we have cared for children at our small home outside Goma. When their village was attacked earlier this year, we were forced to move them into a temporary house in the city for safety. It was during that evacuation that Kibomango, the former child soldier turned national boxing champion, was tragically killed in clashes between M23 and Congolese forces while helping We Are Limitless founder Matt Leutwyler move the children to safety.
Recently, the children were able to return to our home outside Goma, but the challenges remain enormous. Because rebel groups have begun showing up at schools to forcibly recruit young boys, we have had to move all of our children into homeschooling for their protection. Balancing education with the urgent needs of food, healthcare, and safety in the middle of a war zone is overwhelming.
One of the young women whose life was deeply shaped by Kibomango is Clarck, a fighter from his all-girls boxing team and the main subject of Fight Like A Girl. After being forced to flee, Clarck was granted temporary asylum in the U.S. We are thrilled to share that she is now engaged to be married this September—a hopeful new chapter born from unimaginable struggle. Her new life is part of the legacy Kibomango leaves behind—proof that his belief in these girls’ strength continues even after his death.
Back-to-School: How You Can Help
As we step into a new school year this September, we need your help more than ever.
• In Rwanda, your support ensures school fees, food, clothing, and housing for our university students. It also empowers children like Barbara, who have the freedom to set their own challenges, discover the joy of learning, and dream beyond their circumstances.
• In Congo, your donations provide life-saving food, medical attention, and shelter for children who fled after their villages were attacked.
Our team has been there—literally risking lives alongside these children to move them to safety. Your generosity makes it possible not only to rescue, but also to rebuild their futures.
Every dollar makes a difference. Together, we can ensure our students start the school year with dignity and hope, while our Congolese children have the essentials to survive and grow.
